Multitasking Soothing Perineal Spray with Witch Hazel and Lavender
As you probably know, childbirth is quite an experience, and recovery takes time. For my first birth, I prepared myself very well in terms of skincare, and today I want to share with you my recipe for the best postpartum spray for intimate areas (and beyond) you’ll ever have.
Why make the spray yourself? Isn’t it better to buy a ready-made one?
Well, no! When it comes to healing wounds, the simpler, the better. The spray I’m going to show you contains only two ingredients:
- Lavender essential oil – works wonders on wounds and burns, speeding up the healing process.
- Witch hazel hydrosol – it’s important that it’s completely alcohol-free, as it has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Be cautious with the ingredients in intimate area sprays!
When choosing sprays for intimate areas, it’s important to pay attention to the ingredients. I found this out at a mom and baby fair in London, where I reviewed the labels of many products.
I was surprised to find that one of the popular “natural” cosmetics in the UK contained “parfum,” a synthetic fragrance. I personally avoid such ingredients in products for sensitive areas.
It’s also worth checking for citric acid and lactic acid, which are often added to cosmetics to lower their pH. This is necessary because many natural preservatives work effectively only in an acidic environment. Although these ingredients are common in water-based products and play an important role, they can irritate damaged or sensitive skin.
This is why, in postpartum care, it’s better to stick to as simple formulas as possible, such as pure witch hazel hydrosol, which doesn’t require additional pH regulators or preservatives.
That’s why I prefer to use pure witch hazel hydrosol, which contains only one fully natural ingredient. It’s a simple and safe solution that works even for the most sensitive skin. One of my favorites is from the brand Niassance, and it costs just a few pounds.
Postpartum Spray Recipe – (100 g)
Ingredients:
- 99 g witch hazel hydrosol (alcohol-free)
- 1 g lavender essential oil (1%)
Preparation:
- Pour the witch hazel hydrosol into a spray bottle.
- Add the lavender essential oil.
- Shake before each use to ensure the ingredients mix well.

Usage
You can use this mist not only for intimate areas – its incredibly gentle formula also works great on your face when you need a refresh after childbirth. It’s also fantastic for itchy skin – I don’t know about you, but my calves itched so much during the second trimester!
Additionally, the spray is perfect for:
- Irritations after shaving
- Small cuts
- Redness and itchy skin
I highly recommend it – it’s a true must-have for postpartum skincare!
